Strengthening the sustainability and resilience of development amid protracted uncertainties will be a key focus of China's economic policies this year, officials and experts said. Their comments came as President Xi Jinping called on Jan. 11 for establishing at a faster pace the new development paradigm featuring dual circulation.

习近平主席于1月11日呼吁加快构建双循环发展新模式。对此，官员和专家纷纷表示，在长期不确定性的情况下，增强发展的可持续性和韧性将是今年中国经济政策的重点。

While downsizing broad-based stimulus, monetary and fiscal authorities will strengthen targeted support to key sectors this year, such as technological innovation, small businesses, green development and people's livelihoods, according to officials.

官员们表示，在缩减广泛刺激措施的同时，货币和财政部门今年将加强对诸如技术创新、小企业、绿色发展以及民生等关键产业的有针对性支持。

Some other economic authorities have also taken up spurring technological innovation as a key task for 2021, as strengthening self-reliance in innovation is a core part of the "dual circulation" development paradigm.

According to a report released by European Patent Office on Dec. 10, 2020, China has emerged as an increasingly important player in the fourth industrial revolution, having patented technologies at a rate that is growing at double the global average.

After generating more than 6,300 international patent families in 2018, China now stands almost on par with Europe and Japan in patented technologies.

The United States defended its position as the world leader in fourth industrial revolution technology with 11,927 international patent families in 2018. China stands in 4th position.

The study reveals that China's tech innovation in the field of the fourth industrial revolution is specialized in connectivity and software, areas in which companies such as technology giants Huawei and ZTE have become world leaders.
