The 48th WorldSkills Competition will take place in Shanghai from September 22 to 27 — the first time the event is held in mainland China. As host, China will compete in all 64 events. Nine contestants from Guangzhou will represent the country in eight events, accounting for half of Guangdong's total and the most of any Chinese city.

After national selection, Guangzhou competitors topped their fields in fine woodworking, network systems administration, mobile app development, software testing, CAD mechanical design, refrigeration and air conditioning, digital interactive media design, and robot systems integration.

Guangzhou's strength is built on a deep talent pool. The city is home to 4.31 million skilled workers, including 1.69 million highly skilled professionals.

Historically, Guangzhou contestants have won 14 gold, 4 silver, 7 bronze and 19 merit awards at the WorldSkills Competition, ranking first among all Chinese cities in both gold and total medals.
