On September 10, Guangzhou-based autonomous driving firm WeRide, global mobility giant Uber, and AVOMO — the autonomous driving arm of Moove Cars Group — announced that, with backing from the Madrid regional government, they have obtained Spain's first national-level operating license for Level-4 autonomous passenger vehicles, issued by Spain's Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT). The permit authorizes vehicle deployments on public roads across Spain.

This marks Spain's first national regulatory green light for L4 Robotaxi services, setting a new benchmark for autonomous driving commercialization across Europe. With this milestone, WeRide's autonomous solutions have now secured operating approvals in nine countries.

Madrid is the fourth city under the strategic partnership between WeRide and Uber. The two plan to expand their joint Robotaxi services to 15 global cities by 2030, deploying tens of thousands of vehicles internationally.
