On September 8, Guangzhou-based XPeng announced the official launch of its humanoid robot production line. The first advanced general-purpose humanoid to complete automated final assembly on the line — XPeng IRON — walked off under its own power. The milestone marks XPeng's shift from R&D prototyping to production-line manufacturing, laying the groundwork for scaled output and commercial rollout.

IRON is built with a fully enclosed flexible lattice design and boasts 76 degrees of freedom across the body, including 21 in each hand, enhancing both body movement and fine motor control. On the intelligence side, it runs on three of XPeng's self-developed Turing AI chips, delivering 2,250 TOPS of effective computing power, with a physical AI large model deployed at the edge.

XPeng plans to begin mass production by the end of 2026, with initial deployments in its own stores and campuses, and expects to launch commercial sales in China and overseas markets in 2027. Earlier this year, the company had already begun trials in controlled scenarios such as store guidance and campus services to validate reliability, task performance and operational costs.

In August, XPeng's robotics unit completed its first equity financing round, raising over $900 million at a post‑money valuation exceeding $6.3 billion. The funds will be used for R&D in hardware and software, physical AI model training, and the build‑out of mass‑production capabilities.
