On July 26, 2026, the first council meeting and inauguration ceremony of the International Mangrove Center (IMC) were held in Shenzhen, marking its transition from a global initiative into full institutional operation.

The International Mangrove Center is the world's first intergovernmental international organization dedicated to mangrove conservation, and the first international environmental organization initiated and led by China. Its headquarters are located in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province . As of August 3, the center has 21 signatory countries, including 9 member states, covering the major mangrove distribution regions across Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Oceania .

On August 5, Guangzhou Daily conducted an exclusive interview with Yoeung Visal, an IMC program officer from Cambodia, at the center's headquarters in Futian District, Shenzhen.

From Cambodia's mangrove wetlands to Shenzhen Bay along the South China Sea, this young official, deeply engaged in the conservation of freshwater wetlands and mangroves, is drawing inspiration and knowledge from "China's experience" to drive cross-border collaboration in global mangrove conservation.
