On July 26, 2026, the first council meeting and inauguration ceremony of the International Mangrove Center (IMC) were held in Shenzhen. This marked the world's first intergovernmental organization dedicated to mangrove protection, transitioning from a China-initiated proposal into full institutional operation. As of August 3, the IMC has 21 signatory countries, including 9 member states, covering major mangrove regions across Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Oceania.

On August 5, Guangzhou Daily conducted an exclusive interview with Tahiry Fanomezana Rakotomamonjy, an IMC program officer from Madagascar, at the center's Shenzhen headquarters in Futian District. She shared her decade-long dedication to mangrove conservation and her in-depth observations of the "Shenzhen model."
