
Guangzhou has been re-elected as a co-president city of Metropolis – World Association of Major Metropolises. The association also resolved to set up its regional training branch in Nansha District, Guangzhou, and Guangzhou will continue to operate the association's Asia-Pacific Regional Office.
The resolutions were adopted at the Metropolis General Assembly held in Tangier, Morocco, on June 26 local time. Hu Hao, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou, headed the municipal delegation to attend the conference.

Rabat, capital of Morocco, was elected the association's president city. Other co-president cities alongside Guangzhou include the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (Spain), Gauteng Province (South Africa), Montreal (Canada), São Paulo (Brazil) and Seoul (South Korea).
At the assembly, Guangzhou delivered a special sharing on its practices and experience in green and smart urban transport.
Guangzhou joined Metropolis in 1993 and has served on its Board of Directors since 1996, making it the first Chinese city to hold a board seat over the past 30 years. Since 2014, it has gained a seat on the association's Presidium for five consecutive terms. From 2020 to 2022, Guangzhou served as the association's president city, the first Chinese city to hold this top position.
