It has been learned that Jacobi Robotics, a startup incubated by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), plans to begin small-scale production of its embodied intelligent humanoid robot this year. The robot will be deployed in multiple large and medium-sized supermarkets both domestically and internationally, with the potential to reduce labor costs by up to 90 percent.

The robot features a wheeled base and a humanoid upper body capable of vertical movement, allowing it to reach every shelf level. Its dexterous hands are designed as grippers, with each hand capable of lifting 2 to 3 kilograms; when working in tandem, the two hands can handle up to 5 kilograms. Cameras are installed on the back of the grippers and on the robot's head.

During demonstrations, the robot easily gripped cans and placed them in designated locations, and also handled snacks of various shapes, instant noodles, and glass-packaged condiments. Although its operating speed remains relatively slow, the robot achieved a tidy arrangement of products on the shelves.

"We are currently conducting final debugging of the robot and plan to begin small-scale production in the fourth quarter of this year, with deployment in retail scenarios," said the company's head.
