
On March 24, the results of the 2026 Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize were officially announced. Guangzhou was awarded the Special Mention for its strategic transformation "from a growth-oriented development model to one that integrates public participation, cultural preservation and ecological sustainability."
Widely regarded as the "Nobel Prize" of urban planning, the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize is one of the most authoritative international awards in the field of urban planning and governance.

This year's competition was exceptionally fierce, with numerous cities from around the world submitting strong and diverse applications. The main prize was awarded to London, United Kingdom. Joining Guangzhou in receiving the Special Mention were Antwerp (Belgium), Budapest (Hungary), Taipei (China), and Tianjin (China), listed in alphabetical order.

The jury noted that "Guangzhou, with its vision and determination to re-examine its own development path, has implemented a comprehensive development model that integrates economic vitality, public well-being, and safety resilience. By effectively balancing the ecological environment, social dynamism, and urban liveability amidst rapid urbanization, Guangzhou has offered valuable lessons for cities around the world."
