The first Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM1) and related meetings for APEC 2026 officially kicked off in Guangzhou on Feb 1. The meetings will focus on the APEC 2026 theme, "Building an Asia-Pacific Community for Common Prosperity," and its three priority areas of "Openness, Innovation, and Cooperation."

The discussions aim to launch cooperation across all sectors and mechanisms, and build outcomes for the Leaders' Informal Meeting scheduled for November. The meetings bring together representatives from all 21 APEC member economies.
