The acclaimed production Awakening Lion will represent Guangzhou at the 14th China Arts Festival, taking the stage in Chongqing this October. The production recently held preview performances on October 11-12 at Guangdong Art Theatre, generating strong audience enthusiasm ahead of its national debut.
As China's first contemporary dance piece based on the Southern Lion Dance – an intangible cultural heritage blending martial arts, music and movement – the show masterfully merges vigorous lion dance techniques with elegant choreography. Southern-style boxing stances and signature movements such as leaps, turns, and sweeps are seamlessly woven into its dance language.

Since its 2018 premiere, Awakening Lion has been staged over 300 times across China and internationally, receiving several accolades including the prestigious Lotus Award for dance drama. Audiences consistently praise its powerful depiction of Lingnan culture and its cinematic, emotionally resonant storytelling.
