Guangzhou is making major strides in AI and humanoid robotics, actively shaping long-term strategy to secure a leading role in the global tech race.

As Guangdong leads China in AI, with a core industry exceeding 220 billion yuan in 2024, Guangzhou stands out with solid foundations, diverse applications, and vast potential for growth. AI is now one of the city's 15 strategic emerging industries.

Guangzhou has established a complete AI industrial chain, hosting around 1,800 AI-related firms. About 80 percent of these are application-layer companies such as Pony.ai and WeRide, which collaborate with infrastructure and technology providers.

With nearly 50,000 robotics firms, ranking second nationwide, Guangzhou is home to industrial robot specialists like Li-Gong and Fuwei, automakers like GAC and XPeng developing humanoids for manufacturing, and startups like GQ Robot creating consumer robots.

Leveraging its robust manufacturing and service sectors, Guangzhou is advancing robots from“usable”to“highly practical”in fields such as senior care, education, and public services. The city is facilitating partnerships between robot companies and real-world users in power, metro, water, and sanitation to build demonstration sites and showcase new possibilities.

Guangzhou's investment in AI and humanoids goes beyond technology—it's building tomorrow's competitiveness, one step at a time.
