Their connection dates back over 600 years ago during Zheng He's seven maritime expeditions, when the legendary tale of "lychees exchanged for durians" was born.
In 2024, Malaysia gifted China two boxes of premium Musang King and Black Thorn durians, an act dubbed "Durian Diplomacy" by the media.. On July 17, 2025, the China-Malaysia mutual visa exemption takes effect, opening a new chapter for bilateral cultural exchanges and "Guangzhou × Penang" tourism..
