The Hurun Research Institute recently unveiled the "Global Unicorn Index 2025" in Guangzhou, listing non‑listed companies founded after 2000 with valuations exceeding 1 billion dollars. According to the report, 24 firms headquartered in Guangzhou earned places on the Global Unicorn Index, ranking 11th among global cities and 4th among Chinese cities.

Guangzhou nearly matches the combined total in South Korea and Japan (27), and aligns closely with other major startup hubs such as Boston (25) and Berlin (21), while nearly doubling that of Los Angeles (14).
