As Typhoon Wutip, the year's first major storm, churned through Guangdong, #drones were dispatched by the province's meteorological authorities to the typhoon's associated sea areas, where they dropped detection instruments to gather real-time meteorological data on the powerful storm.

In this particular experiment, the "Haiyan" drone soared to an impressive altitude of 11,000 meters. Utilizing the ensemble forecasting and ensemble sensitivity analysis (ESA) methods of the South China Sea Typhoon Model (CMA - TRAMS), scientists were able to pinpoint the typhoon's target observation areas and dropsonde release points. Eight dropsondes were released, measuring data such as temperature, air pressure, humidity, wind speed, and wind direction specifically for Typhoon Wutip. #tech #technology #innovation
