A ruddy shelduck, a protected species recognized for its ecological, scientific, and social value in China, was recently spotted at Guangzhou Haizhu National Wetland, bringing the total number of bird species recorded there to 202.

Haizhu Wetland, known as Guangzhou's “Green Heart,” has become an increasingly important stopover for migratory birds.

As of March 31, Haizhu Wetland's biodiversity records show 835 species of vascular plants, 903 insect species, 202 bird species, 8 amphibian species, 22 reptile species, 10 mammal species, 64 fish species and 67 benthic animal species. These numbers highlight the wetland's crucial role in maintaining urban biodiversity and providing sanctuary for wildlife in one of China's most developed metropolitan areas.
