A 23-member rescue team from South China's Guangdong Province has departed for Myanmar to assist in relief efforts following a powerful 7.9-magnitude earthquake that struck the country at 2:20 p.m. on March 28. The disaster has resulted in 694 deaths and 1,670 injuries in the Mandalay region, with casualties expected to rise further.
In response to the crisis, the Shenzhen Rescue Volunteers Federation, operating under the command of China's Ministry of Emergency Management, dispatched its first group of 23 professional rescuers along with a search-and-rescue dog at 1:30 p.m. on March 29. The team is expected to arrive at Yangon International Airport at 10:35 p.m. local time, where they will join officials from the Chinese embassy and the Ministry of Emergency Management to receive their rescue tasks.
