Heard about lavish delicacies in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), but not sure what to do or where to go? Follow these routes to have a mouthwatering journey of the GBA's culinary wonders! Gourmands will unveil hidden gems and iconic dishes at time-honored restaurants and old districts while enjoying the beautiful landscape.

Day 1: Guangzhou

Recommended route: Xihua Road - Yongqing Fang - Canton Tower - Pearl River Night Cruise

西华路、西关永庆坊、广州塔、珠江夜游

Acclaimed as one of the food capitals of China, Guangzhou is the birthplace of Cantonese dim sum. Xihua Road and Enning Road, where Yongqing Fang is located, are must-visit food streets in Guangzhou. Here you can find a variety of time-honored restaurants and experience the authentic flavor of Guangzhou through Cantonese snacks and desserts, such as stone-grounded rice noodle rolls, wontons, beef offal, and imitation shark fin soup (with chicken, bean vermicelli, and mushroom as main ingredients but without any shark fins or shark meat).

Day 2: Foshan

Foshan's Shunde is one of UNESCO's "World Gourmet Capital" cities, which is also known as the "cradle of the best Cantonese chefs." The Shunde OCT Harbour PLUS gathers over 100 restaurants and food stalls selling Shunde snacks like Lunjiao rice cake and double-skin milk, making the place a perfect choice to savor Shunde's delicacies.

Lingnan Tiandi near the Foshan Ancestral Temple is an ideal spot to experience Foshan's local culture and cuisine as well. It's home to historical buildings as well as classic Cantonese restaurants, Foshan souvenir shops, international restaurants, and bars.

Day 3: Dongguan

If you stick around for food in Dongguan, take a stroll to the old part of the city, and you must not miss out on roasted goose rice noodles, fish tofu, Daojiao guozheng zongzi (rice dumpling), and Dongguan cured meat.

Among them, the tightly-wrapped Daojiao guozheng zongzi is rich in flavor, with glutinous rice, salted egg yolks, pork belly, lotus seeds, green beans, and spices as main ingredients, tantalizing your taste buds with every bite. You can buy a delicious one at a random restaurant on the street such as Jiajiamei.

Chua Lam, a famous gourmet in China, once stopped at Daojiao deliberately during a trip to buy such zongzis. "My favorite zongzis in Guangdong are those from Daojiao," he said.

Day 4: Zhuhai & Macao

Zhuhai's seafood is the city's unique tone of flavor. In Beishan Grand Courtyard, you can savor well-cooked fresh prawns and feel the intoxicating flavor of the coastal city, while Japanese, Thai, and other foreign cuisines are available as well. Furthermore, some of the outdoor camping activities and barbecues decorate the city's evenings.

In addition, Zhuhai is close to Macao, where you can enjoy classic Macao specialities such as Portuguese egg tarts, pork chop buns, and egg rolls.

Day 5: Hong Kong

Hong Kong's culinary culture has a unique cosmopolitan style. In addition to Hong Kong-style milk tea, fish ball, roast goose, wonton noodle and other snacks, many Michelin restaurants are lined up in the streets to offer a wide range of delicious and inexpensive dining options.

Victoria Peak, known simply as The Peak, is a must-see Hong Kong destination, offering iconic views of skyscraper-flanked Victoria Harbour, Kowloon peninsula and craggy mountain peaks. Here you will see snack shops serving refreshments such as Hong Kong-style egg waffles, cafes serving drinks and snacks such as egg tarts, Cantonese herbal soups and Taiwanese-style bubble teas, eateries serving Cantonese wonton noodles and Western cuisines, as well as tea houses.
