The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST), also dubbed 'China Sky Eye,' is located in a karst depression called Dawodang in Pingtang county, Guizhou province.

FAST started formal operation on Jan 11, 2020 and officially opened to the global scientific community on Apr 1, 2021.

Compared to the world's 2nd largest radio telescope, FAST is 2.5 times more sensitive, and 4 times larger in exploration range. By the end of 2021, FAST had detected near 500 pulsars since the first announcement of its discovery of pulsars on Oct 10, 2017.

Nature published a cover article on the significant progress FAST had made in measuring interstellar magnetic fields with neutral hydrogen spectral lines on Jan 6, 2022.

So far, over 120 academic papers have been published based on the data collected by FAST. It will play a significant role in the future international astronomical exploration.
