The first section of Guangzhou Metro Line 22 went into operation at 6 a.m. this morning. The section sets up four underground stations: Chentougang(陈头岗), Guangzhou South Railway Station(广州南站), Shiguanglu(市广路)and Panyu Square(番禺广场).
Passengers can transfer to Line 2, Line 7 and Foshan Metro Line 2 at Guangzhou South Railway Station and to Line 3 and Line 18 at Panyu Square Station.
Metro Line 22 is a rapid transit express line with a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour. The whole line will span 30.8 kilometers and consist of eight stations. It is built to enhance the connectivity between Nansha, Liwan and Panyu districts and the Guangzhou South Railway Station.
The opening of the first section brings the total length of Guangzhou's metro network to 607.6 kilometers, ranking third in the country.
