Tong Sui (糖水) is the Cantonese pronunciation of dessert soup, which is a collective term for any sweet, warm soup or custard served as a dessert, such as black sesame soup (芝麻糊), mung bean soup (绿豆糖水), and sai mai lo (sago, 西米露).

This video features Tong Sui made by a Cantonese senior, who has specialized in Tong Sui for almost 13 years. Although her eatery hasn't got a name yet, it has already won great preference from the locals with its lower price and high quality. Many people will specially come to have a taste.

Full text of the video transcript:

I think my products are good, so I won't try any others of our kind. Whenever my daughter wants to have such a try, I would say, “You don't need to. Within Guangzhou, our products are the best.”

I moved here in 2016, and chose to make Tong Sui here in 2018. No matter how difficult it was to continue my business, with my trolley, I would go out even in the wind and rain.

I work all the time. When I do have some spare time, I will go to Yide Lu to stock up. This is why my business can be so popular today and envied by others.

Our products are made of good ingredients, and made by heart. A lot of Tong Sui on the market are cooked by electric cookers. It's impossible to make good Tong Sui with electricity. Tong Sui must be cooked with open fire. Gas consumption of our eatery can reach 7 to 8 tanks per month.

It doesn't matter how much money we earn, what matters is if we can provide good products, so from the ingredients to the sugar added, everything must be of good quality.

I used to tell the delivery man, “I don't care so much about the price of the ingredients, but do care the quality of them.”

Only if we are satisfied with our products can they be sold to our customers.

Almost every kind of our desserts are popular. Lard must be added in black sesame soup. Our lard is made based on the family formula, which makes the soup smooth and flavorful.

It's a common rule that if you're committed to something, then you must not be lazy. Failure is the mother of success.
