The second batch of national demonstration pedestrian streets announced by the Ministry of Commerce include Wangfujing Commercial Street in Beijing (北京王府井), Jinjie Street in Tianjin (天津金街), Nanjing Road in Shanghai (上海南京路), Zhongjie Street in Shenyang (沈阳中街), Jianghan Road in Wuhan (武汉江汉路), and Beijing Road in Guangzhou (广州北京路).
In the first half of this year, the total visit volume and turnover of the six pedestrian streets surged 65.8 percent and 102.4 percent year-on-year, and compared to the same period of 2019, growth reached 11.3 percent and 12.4 percent.
In 2018, the Ministry of Commerce launched a pilot project to upgrade pedestrian streets in 11 Chinese cities, aiming to follow the trend of consumption upgrading, optimizing environment, improving facilities, increasing the supply of high-quality goods, and meeting customers' multi-level and diversified needs.

Last year, the first batch of national demonstration pedestrian streets was announced, including Confucius Temple Pedestrian Street in Nanjing (南京夫子庙步行街), Hubin Pedestrian Street in Hangzhou (杭州湖滨步行街), Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street in Chongqing (重庆解放碑步行街), Kuanzhai Xiangzi Pedestrian Street in Chengdu (成都宽窄巷子步行街), and Great Tang All Day Mall Pedestrian Street (西安大唐不夜城步行街) in Xi'an.
