All city districts and departments in Beijing have positively responded to a campaign to eliminate bottled water that started in April and have made significant progress, according to local officials.

Local government offices, such as the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform, Municipal Commission of City Management, and Municipal Commission of Transport, no longer provide bottled mineral water for meetings. Small bottles can be provided when needed, and unfinished bottles should be taken away by meeting participants when they leave. The use of sterilized cups, water in jugs and personal flasks is encouraged to reduce unnecessary water waste.

Additionally, Beijing also requires hotels, restaurants and A-level tourist attractions to participate in the “no bottled water” campaign, and actively cooperate with supervision by local government.

It's reported that 60 percent of Beijing's Party and government offices, 40 percent of public institutions and 50 percent of schools are on track to ban bottled water by the end of this year. Next year, all municipal Party and government offices will complete the campaign to become “water-saving organizations” by banning bottled water.
