Gloomy weather with scattered light rain dominated Guangzhou these days, and the weather condition during the upcoming five-day May Day holiday triggers public concern as a large amount of travelers will venture out for trips.

Fortunately, downpours in the past two days are expected to abate this afternoon (April 28), according to the city's meteorological authority. Citizens and tourists in Guangzhou are expected to see cloudy weather between tomorrow (April 29) and May 4, coupled with a slight drop in temperature of 2-4℃ and possible light precipitation in some regions.

Thunderstorms, however, are predicted to return to the city on the last day of the vacation (May 5) under the influence of a cold snap, along with strong convectional weather such as lightning and fresh gales.

Holiday goers are advised to take with them umbrellas in case of possible rainfall. Those going on self-drive trips are reminded to pay close attention to road conditions and driving safety, especially on rainy days, and advised to drive at safe speeds and keep a reasonable distance between cars, suggestively two to three times as that under normal weather conditions, to avoid rear-end collision.

Besides, drivers should be careful of overtaking, fatigue driving and driving at night, according to the Ministry of Public Security's Traffic Management Bureau.

The rise of self-driving travel would be prominent during the period, and the road traffic pressure in popular tourist cities and key scenic spots may double, the bureau said.
