China 

 

1. Guangzhou's largest temporary site for COVID-19 vaccination started service yesterday at the Southeast Square of Tianhe Sports Center, offering service between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. every day with the maximum inoculation capability of 6,000 jabs per day.

 

Residents can apply for vaccine shots via three channels: group reservation at the subdistrict office; make an reservation on-site (400 quota per day); or register at the "预防接种服务" mobile app.

 

2. Guangdong province is expected to see its peaks of travelers leaving town on April 30 (5p.m.-midnight) and May 1 (8 a.m. - 12 a.m.), and its returnee rush on May 5 (5 p.m. - 10 p.m. ), according to the provincial Department of Transportation.

 

3. People traveling during the upcoming May Day holiday (May 1-5) are advised to conduct a self-observation for 14 days after coming back from their trips, according to China's health authority.

 

4. The Chinese mainland recorded 11 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, all from overseas.

 

5. Ruili, a border city in Southwest China's Yunnan province, has lifted home quarantine in its low-risk areas starting from 8 p.m. Monday, while places like jewelry and jade trading venues, cinemas and internet cafes remain closed.

1. The World Health Organization said it will decide by the end of the week whether to grant Sinopharm's COVID-19 vaccine emergency use listing, in what could kickstart the Chinese jab's global distribution.  

 

2. Egypt on Monday granted approval to China's Sinovac coronavirus vaccine for emergency use.

 

3. Indian Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has tested positive for COVID-19, local media reported. The country documented a new daily coronavirus case record for the fifth straight day with 352,991.

 

4. Two locally employed U.S. embassy staffers in India have died with COVID-19 and more than 100 have tested positive in recent weeks as India battles another strong wave of the disease.

 

5. Some European Commission(EU) countries, including Germany and Italy, are following the UK and others in restricting most passengers arriving from India due to the surge in cases in New Delhi and other cities.

 

6. International tourists will be allowed to visit the EU if they've been vaccinated using one of the drugs approved by the European Medicines Agency, according to the EU president.
