China plans to build sound aged care industry clusters with economic and social benefits in some regions whose economic and social development has adapted to their aging population by 2022, the National Development and Reform Commission announced in a notice published on its website on February 1.

2月1日，国家发展和改革委员会在其网站上发布一份通知称，中国争取到2022年，在一批经济社会发展与人口老龄化进程相适应的地区，建立经济社会效益俱佳的健康养老产业集群。  

The plan is expected to help explore universally applicable and pragmatic measures in coping with the challenges posed by China's aging population, according to the notice.

根据该通知，这一计划将有助于探索一批普遍适用、务实管用的应对人口老龄化政策举措。

People aged 60 or above totaled nearly 254 million by the end of 2019, accounting for 18 percent of the Chinese population, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. The number is projected to surpass 300 million in 2025 and reach 500 million in 2050. 

据国家统计局数据显示，截至2019年年底，中国60岁及以上人口总数接近2.54亿，占总人口的18%。预计到2025年，这一数字将超过3亿，到2050年将达到5亿。
