A shopaholic's carnival, the 2020 Guangzhou International Shopping Festival kicks off today (December 23) and will sweep across the city through January 22, 2021. With a main venue at Tianhelu Business Circle, the month-long shopping bonanza will present a slew of promotion events involving all kinds of brands at various shopping malls.
Featuring customized service, digital consumption and cultural tourism, the carnival this year is characterized by a diverse range of exciting activities like exotic art exhibitions and creative markets. Band roadshows, e-game competitions and food tasting are also scheduled to heat up the annual craze.
Grandview Mall invites visitors to tour "streets" of ancient Japanese cities of Nara and Kyoto without going outside Guangzhou. From calligraphy, flower arts, Japanese tea ceremony, gourmet food, architecture to life aesthetics, people are offered a chance to have a glimpse into the exotic social customs and business culture of Japan.
Shoppers can enjoy a romantic trip at K11's France-themed festival, which attracts visitors with art exhibitions, movie screenings and music shows.
Among the attractions will be a solo exhibition by Neil Beloufa, a renowned French artist whose works are housed at New York's Museum of Modern Art and Paris's Pompidou Center. Cesar Piette's Garden, a display of giant sculpture and plants, and films by French director Eric Rohmer making debut in South China, along with other cultural activities, will be staged to throw an immense art treat.

Teemall will be marked by a lovely pink exhibition by Chinese artist Jia Xiao'ou. Exhibition goers are to be brought into a romantic, childlike world designed with fairy tale characters and animal images as well as a fantastic castle.

One highlight at the venue will be the "Star Wish", an outdoor exhibition featuring a 12-meter-tall tower and festive decorations. Outdoors lighting and music shows, with "snow" floating in the air every Friday and weekend, will enable visitors to experience a "snowy winter" in the southern metropolis.
An immersive exhibition of One Piece (海贼王), an animation popular for decades among cartoon fans worldwide, is currently in full swing at Po Park. Using 3D holographic technology, the exhibit features typical scenarios and plots of the animation, luring adventurers to explore the thrilling, captivating world of pirates.
Imaginative installations are set up at Taikoo Hui, combining elements of the southern hemisphere—such as polar bears and giraffes—and genres of punk princess style that go viral in the fashion circle. By creating a sense of traveling around the world, the lifelike display aims to convey the spirits of pursuing freedom and courage under the context of global pandemic.
A variety of promotions involving food, furniture, electronic and IT products as well as creative markets are welcoming consumers at the IGC (天汇广场), Tiande Centre (天德广场), Kaisa Plaza (佳兆业广场), Mopark (摩登百货), Tianhe Festival Walk (天河又一城), Buynow (百脑汇), Louver Furnishing Art Center (广州罗浮宫家居艺术中心), M·Live (美林M·LIVE天地) and Easyhome (居然之家).
THE Plaza (天娱广场) will hold e-sports competitions of Honor of Kings, China's homegrown mobile game, as well as interesting games.
Onelink Walk (万菱汇) welcomes visitors with an exhibition of Betty Boop, a 90-year-old cartoon character gaining popularity worldwide, while the Victory Plaza (维多利广场) will present Guangzhou's first themed-exhibition on both space and forest.
Department stores and shopping halls of the Beijinglu Business Circle in Yuexiu district, Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street Business Circle in Liwan district and Baiyun New Town Business Circle in Baiyun district also will join hands with those of Tianhe to throw an immense shopping and cultural carnival.
