Four cold waves are forecast to sweep across Guangdong in December, bringing heavy wind and temperature drops, according to the local meteorological department.

The first wave of cold air is anticipated to hit between December 7 and 8; the second to arrive between December 11 and 14; the third between December 17 and 19; and the fourth during December 25 and 28.

The temperature in Guangdong will see a slight drop under the influence of a southward cold wave arriving today (December 3), with temperature in mountainous regions in northern Guangdong dropping below 5℃. The lowest temperature in the province is expected on December 5 (Saturday), with Guangzhou bracing for cooler weather below 11℃.

Guangzhou will warm up again after December 5, before a new cold front hits again on December 11.

The local meteorological authorities also said that the province is tending to receive little precipitation in the coming days as dry and sunny weather prevail.

Dry weather raises fire concerns. Up till December 2, the province has activated 63 red alerts against forest fire, the highest level in the province's five-tier, color-coded weather warning system, and 34 orange alerts as well as four yellow ones. Citizens are advised to pay special attention to forest fire prevention and fire safety both at home and outdoors.
