Attention foodies! The 2020 Guangzhou International Gourmet Festival will kick off tomorrow (October 30) at Clifford Wonderland (祈福缤纷世界) in Panyu district, presenting a special roster of gourmet cuisines and cultural activities to food lovers.
A gala for the city's gourmands, this offline fest will run for 10 days through November 8.
The city's brick-and-mortar restaurants are scheduling a series of supporting promotion events, such as distributing bonus, to drive food consumption and build up popularity among consumers, as they are juggling for a place on the Guangzhou Taste List (name subject to change)(广州滋味榜). The list marks Guangzhou's first official evaluation system for delicacies, supported by two Yelp-like business-review service platforms, Koubei and Dazhong Dianping.
MADO, a Turkish-style cafe featuring exquisite ice cream and coffee at Clifford Wonderland, for example, has signed up to compete for a place on the list, introducing a new set meal of typical Turkish-style breakfast.

Yet no on-site cuisine sales are scheduled this year in order to avoid group gatherings amid the conoravirus outbreak. Exhibition zones, however, will still be set up at the venue to present an array of impressive Cantonese cuisines by renowned chefs and popular eateries from all 11 districts.
Displays of food materials and ingredients with exotic tastes are also arranged to whet visitors' appetites, along with food-related activities like gourmet-themed photography shows to fully showcase the charm of the city's gourmet food.

One highlight of this year's food festival will be a live cooking contest, where five most popular restaurants from each district will rival for the crown, "广州滋味之王" (King of Guangzhou Taste, title subject to change). The event will be broadcast live via the Internet. The Guangzhou Taste List will also be unveiled at the festival to highlight the top 20 food brands from each district.
The list, along with the map of the city's gourmet food, will be displayed at major city entry points like Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Guangzhou South Railway Station to further expand the influence of the festival and promote Guangzhou as a paradise for gastronomes.
Other sub-venues of the carnival include Yuehui City (悦汇城) in Liwan district and Xinyeyue Duhui Square (信业悦都荟广场) in Panyu district.
