Reading House, or the Nanhai Financial City Branch of Guangzhou Library, opened to the public on October 18 as the first public library built jointly by Guangzhou and Foshan cities.

Located at the Tee-mall in Nanhai district, Foshan, the library spreads 1,000 square meters. The three-story public culture space offers readers a selection of over 30,000 books, covering popular genres like literature, economics, health care and children's literature. In the future, more books will be added to expand the library's collections.

Advanced facilities and technologies like self-service borrowing and return system have upgraded the library, providing services of reader card registration, book retrieval and e-book reading. These facilities allow citizens to borrow and return books at over 240 branches of the Guangzhou United Library system and those of Foshan's, enabling bookworms to pick up their favorites among wider choices and return books in the library at their nearest convenience.

One attraction of the public library will be its 16.2-meter-high open bookshelf, cutting through three floors with a novel, impressive outward appearance. The shelf is expected to wow Harry Potter fans, as the supporting stairs are designed to emulate the mobile staircases in the fictional school Hogwarts, offering a telling experience of traveling through that magical wonderland.

The Reading House is hailed as one of the significant achievements in accelerating the urban integration of Guangzhou and Foshan by providing citizens with seamless connection of public library services. A symbol of the further improvement of Guangzhou's public library system, the cultural space is expected to help enrich citizens' spiritual lives by creating an awesome place for reading and leisure activities.
