The National Day holiday is just around the corner! China will see a robust travel demand and a surge of passenger traffic, as some 408 million road trips are expected to be made during the eight-day break, according to the Ministry of Transport. Road tolls will be waived for small passenger vehicles with no more than seven seats during the vacation.

In Guangzhou, the expected outgoing travel rush will start on highways at noon on September 30 and last until early hours on October 1. Road sections in downtown areas will see traffic congestion from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on September 30, as well as on the night of October 1 as citizens head out to admire the moon.
The peak of returning travelers is anticipated to occur on the afternoons of October 7 and 8 on both expressways and downtown city roads, according to Guangzhou's transportation authorities.
An estimated 9.96 million passengers will travel through the Guangzhou Metro network on September 30, a new peak in passenger volume since the coronavirus outbreak.
To cope with the travel rush, Guangzhou Metro will prolong its service time by one hour on five days - September 30, October 1, 6, 7 and 8.
On October 4, metro line 2 plans to extend service by 30 minutes for trains bound for Jiahe Wanggang, dropping off passengers only at major stations of Luoxi, Changgang, Gongyuanqian, Guangzhou Railway Station and Jiahe Wanggang.
In light of the travel demand created by festive celebrations, bus lines passing by popular tourist spots like Canton Tower, Baiyun Mountain and Yuntai Garden will extend operation hours on October 1.
On the evening of October 8, four night lines leaving from Tianhe Coach Terminal, including bus Nos.303 and Night 69, will extend their service time to 1 a.m. the following day.
Last buses of nine night lines leaving from Guangzhou South Railway Station, including Night 20 and Night 61, are scheduled to flexibly extend their service hours based on the arrival time of that day's last trains.
Also, the customized Ruyue Bus plans to add more lines to shuttle returning travelers on October 7 and 8.
Guangzhou will not implement the management measures on non-local vehicles — those without a Guangzhou license plate ("粤A") — during the National Day break. That means such vehicles are allowed to run around the city's designated central urban area for 16 consecutive days, from September 27 to October 12.
Some 10 road sections in downtown Guangzhou are estimated to experience severe congestion due to the large traffic flow out of the city on September 30.
