Nansha Passenger Port (南沙客运港) in Guangzhou's Nansha district is planning to inaugurate a new direct water route to the coastal city of Zhuhai in mid-September, according to the operator.

The speedy ferry route marks the first "marine highway" to connect Guangzhou and Zhuhai's renowned scenic spots, Wailingding Island (外伶仃岛) and Guishan Island (桂山岛). It is expected to cut in half the travel time to around two hours, compared with the previous transport means of "bus-plus-ferry".

Passengers from Nansha can arrive at Guishan Island after a 90-minute journey via the upcoming ferry service, and then reach Wailingding Island after another 35-minute ride. During its early operation, one round-trip service is accessible every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and in holidays, with a morning departure from Nansha Passenger Port.

More details will be unveiled later. Please stay tuned!

One of Zhuhai's 10 major islands, Wailingding is being promoted as a Chinese Natural Oxygen Bar. It is rated as a national 4A-level tourist attraction, located in the eastern Pearl River Estuary. Tourist attractions include the Lovers Avenue Scenic Spot (情侣路), Stone Park (石头公园), Rock Carvings (摩崖石刻) and picturesque beaches.

Located on the east side of the Pearl River Estuary 31.5 km (20 miles) from Xiangzhou district, Guishan Island is also hailed as one of the top 10 scenery islands in Zhuhai. The spot is rich in fish, shellfish, algae and boasts more than 100 marine species, along with notable delicacies like Guishan sand clams and sea bass.

In late June, Nansha Passenger Port also has put in operation a new water bus route between Guangzhou and Shenzhen, which slashes the travel time to Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport to only about 35 minutes.
