A new metro line, 24, from Guangzhou North Railway station (广州北站) in Huadu district to Jiangfu (江府) in Baiyun district, has been proposed in an adjusted metro plan published for public opinions on Guangzhou Metro's official website.

The new line, formerly part of the planned north extension of Metro line 8, is proposed to extend farther south to Sun Yat-sen Memorial(纪念堂) in downtown Guangzhou. Measuring 31.6 kilometers long with 18 stations (two inter-exchange stations, with metro line 8 and 12), the line is expected to expand Guangzhou's sprawling railway network and shorten the travel time between Huadu district and the city downtown.

The north extension of Metro line 8, which was originally planned to stretch from Jiaoxin (滘心) to Guangzhou North Railway Station (广州北站), will be cut short and stretch merely from Jiaoxin (滘心) to Jiangfu(江府), according to the adjusted plan. The extension will stretch 9.4 kilometers and have four stations, with Jiangfu (江府) serving as the interexchange station with line 24.

An east extension, 18 kilometers long with seven stations, is also proposed to bring Metro line 8 beyond Wanshengwei (万胜围) to Lianhua(莲花), an important station in the Foshan-Dongguan Intercity Railway that is scheduled to wrap up construction at the end of this year. The extension is expected to further enhance connectivity between Guangzhou and neighboring cities.

Currently, Metro line 8 runs from Cultural Park (文化公园) to Wanshengwei (万胜围) and will soon extend farther north into the city as its new section, from Cultural Park (文化公园) to Jiaoxin (滘心), is a few months away from becoming operational.
