COVID-19 detected in imported frozen seafood package samples

Yantai, a coastal city in East China's Shandong province, reported today that the novel coronavirus was detected in samples collected from imported seafood packages of three local companies on August 9, and these samples were confirmed to be positive for the virus after further verification on August 10.

Yantai's Economic and Technological Development Zone said that these package samples were all collected from imported frozen seafood from the same foreign ship at Dalian port, Shandong province. All the seafood products in question were stored in warehouses before the detection, except a small part which have been processed and exported.

Local authorities have sealed up the products, disinfected related enterprises and their surroundings, put close contacts under quarantine and arranged nucleic acid tests for them, whose results all came back negative.
