Guangzhou's lotus wonder to set a world record

Seven lotus flowers on one stalk, which is rarely seen in the world, was found in Lianhuashan (Lotus Mountain) Tourism Resort in Guangzhou on Thursday. Officials of the tourism resort are considering applying for a Guinness World Record for the natural wonder. 


China 


1. South Korea's budget carrier Air Busan said on Thursday that it plans to resume flight from Incheon to Shenzhen upon quarantine approval from China. Once approved, the route will be operated once a week on Fridays starting from July 17.

 

2. Hong Kong Book Fair 2020 will be held from July 15 to 21 at Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Centre, featuring more than 600 online and offline cultural events.

 

3. All metro trains in Guangzhou carried 3.3 billion passengers and safely traveled 515 kilometers in 2019, taking up 54% of travelers on the city's public transportation system, according to the 2019 report of Guangzhou Metro published on Thursday.

 

4. The Chinese mainland on Thursday recorded four new COVID-19 cases, all from overseas, and three new asymptomatic carriers.

 

5. No new confirmed cases or asymptomatic carriers were found in Guangdong province yesterday. Hong Kong reported 42 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, of which 34 were locally transmitted, according to local authorities.

1. Starting today, high-risk workers in the UK, including taxi drivers, cleaners and shop assistants, will be tested for coronavirus despite having no symptoms, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said Thursday.

 

2. South Korean Police confirmed early Friday that Seoul's mayor, Park Won-soon, was found dead on a mountain, after his daughter filed a missing report to the police on Thursday evening.


3. Italy on Thursday banned travellers from Brazil and 12 other countries it considers to pose a high risk of COVID-19 transmission. The full list comprises Armenia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Brazil, Chile, the Dominican Republic, Kuwait, North Macedonia, Moldova, Oman, Panama and Peru.

 

4. The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Thursday that it was setting up an independent panel to review its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the response by governments.

 

5. The Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic organizing committee will issue ticket refunds to people unable to attend the games due to their one-year postponement, local media reported Thursday.

 

6. Torrential rains in Japan's Kyushu region have caused flooding and landslides, killing 62 people with 17 missing. Over 1.22 million residents have been asked to evacuate, NHK reported on Thursday.

 

7. The Indian Army has asked all its personnel and soldiers to remove 89 apps from their smart phones by July 15 to plug leakage of information, said Army sources on Wednesday. Apps include Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and more.
