Two new metro lines will help people travel between Guangzhou and several neighboring cities.
Guangzhou metro line 28 is planned to extend to Foshan and Dongguan city, while line 18 is planned to connect Zhongshan and Zhuhai city, according to a draft report from the fifth session of the 15th People's Congress of Guangzhou Municipality.
Metro line 28
The line is expected to be an east-west intercity fast line to support the strategic planning of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, linking four cities in the area. The line is planned to connect Guangzhou, Foshan, and Dongguan cites, and its branch line starting from Xintang station will connect Huizhou city. The bidding for metro line 28 recently began in Guangzhou and Foshan.
In the Guangzhou area, the line will run across Liwan, Haizhu, Huangpu and Zengcheng districts. The whole line stretches 107.1 kilometers, with a branch line of 48 kilometers. Plans call for the metro line to run with eight trains at 160 kilometers per hour.
Metro line 18
Guangzhou metro line 18 will run north-south across Guangzhou at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour, aiming to be one of the fastest subway lines in China. Its Wanqingsha – Xiancun station section will start service in June 2021, and the Wanqingsha to Guangzhou East Railway Station section will operate in December 2022.
The extension line of Metro line 18 will stretch to Zhongshan city, allowing passengers to travel from Zhongshan to Zhujiang New Town in 30 minutes, and from Zhongshan to the Nansha free trade zone in 10 minutes.
The extension line will also connect to the Guangzhou-Zhuhai intercity railway at Cuiheng station, linking with Zhuhai city.
Line 18 will have nine stations, and eight of them are interchange stations. Those interchange stations are:
