Some regions in the city, however, announced recently that they will cancel dragon boat races this year in line with the anti-epidemic measures in place to avoid mass gatherings and to prevent a resurgence of the coronavirus. These regions include Chebei village(车陂村) and Shidong village (石东村) in Tianhe district, Siyou village (寺右村) and Yangji village (杨箕村) in Yuexiu district, as well as Dalong street (大龙街), Shilou town (石楼镇) and Nancun town (南村镇) in Panyu district.
Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, traditionally is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, which falls on June 25 this year.
