1 new asymptomatic case in GZ; train riders to Beijing double checked

One new asymptomatic infection was found in Guangzhou yesterday (May 14), of a Chinese student who flew in from the U.S. (Flights UA675 and CZ328) on May 12. She was put under centralized quarantine upon entry.

 

4 new cases, 11 new asymptomatic carriers on the mainland

 

The Chinese mainland reported four new COVID-19 cases yesterday, all domestically transmitted  ones in Jilin province, according to China's National Health Commission (NHC).

 

11 new asymptomatic carriers were also identified on the mainland yesterday.

 

Trains to Beijing require double security checks

Passengers taking trains towards Beijing are temporarily required to pass security checks twice before boarding. The new policy takes effect today, and will end depending on different stations.

 

—Shenzhen North Railway Station: passengers on trains G80, D902, D904, D910 and D928, until May 28.

 

—Yangzhou Railway Station, Jiangsu province (扬州火车站): passengers on trains Z30, until May 28.

 

—Jincheng Railway Station, Shanxi province (晋城火车站): passengers on trains D2002, D2004, G616, G628, K604 and K610.

—Taiyuan Railway Station, Shanxi province (太原火车站): all trains bound for Beijing, until the end of May.

 

—Chengdu Railway Station, Sichuan province (成都火车站): passengers on trains T8, Z50, K818 and K118;

—Chengdu East Railway Station, Sichuan province (成都东火车站): passengers on trains G574, G308 and G90.

 

U.N. warns of global mental health crisis due to the pandemic

More than 300,000 people have died from the coronavirus globally, according to data compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University on May 14. The running tally counted 300,074 deaths, while the number of cases and recoveries stood at 4,405,019 and 1,573,765, respectively.

 

United Nations health experts said yesterday that a mental illness crisis is looming as millions of people worldwide are surrounded by death and disease and forced into isolation, poverty and anxiety by the pandemic. He stressed that governments should put the mental health issue "front and centre" of their responses.

 

In the U.S., residents will be mandated to wear face coverings outdoors to slow the spread of COVID-19 as Los Angeles County is moving forward with its reopening plans, local authorities said yesterday.

 

Japan yesterday announced to end state of emergency for 39 out of its 47 prefectures. Urban centers Tokyo and Osaka will remain under the emergency order until they report sustained falls in case numbers and the burden on hospitals eases.
