Small-sized commercial performances will be allowed in COVID-19 low-risk areas, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism said in a guideline issued on May 13, while medium- and large-sized performances are still suspended. Performances involving personnel from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan as well as foreign countries and regions also will be suspended out of epidemic concerns, unless such personnel are already on the Chinese mainland .

Indoor venues should be reopened in an orderly manner, restricting the number of attendees and requiring reservations prior to visit. Attendance at theaters should not exceed 30 percent of the space's maximum capacity, and audiences should keep at least one meter away from each other, the guideline reads. Performing centers with multiple theaters are allowed to open only one of them at a time.

The document also stipulates that reopened internet cafes and entertainment venues should limit the number of customers to no more than 50 percent of their ratified capacity. Audience and customers are required to wear face masks, have their temperatures taken and produce their health codes at entrances.

Online services like online ticket purchases and payment are encouraged at these venues to help limit the passenger flow and reduce risk of cross-infection.

Guangdong province also announced yesterday that enclosed entertainment venues like theaters and game rooms can reopen with proper preventive measures against the pandemic.
