A number of metro lines in Guangzhou and intercity railway lines connecting neighboring cities are scheduled to open this year.
Metro line 7 west extension
As the second metro line to connect Guangzhou and Foshan, the west extension of metro line 7 starts from Guangzhou South Railway Station and runs to Meidi Dadao in Shunde district, Foshan. It consists of eight stations, Weichong, Chencun Bei, Chencun, Chencun New Town, Nanchong, Lintou, Beijiao New Town, and Meidi Dadao. The extension is expected to be operational by the end of 2020, and five of the eight stations have completed their main structures. It will take only 20 minutes to travel the entire distance of the new extension.
Metro line 18
Metro line 18 will be open to traffic in 2020, with a total of nine stations, of which eight are interchange stations. Stretching 61.3 kilometers, line 18 runs from north to south across Guangzhou, connecting Tianhe, Haizhu, Panyu and Nansha districts. When the line begins carrying passengers, it will take about 30 minutes to travel from Tianhe to Nansha.
Metro line 8 north extension
About 92 percent of the civil engineering project is completed in the north extension of metro line 8. The line begins at Jiaoxin station and ends at Cultural Park station. The line is scheduled to begin service in 2020.
The north extension of Line 8 includes 13 stations: Jiaoxin, Tinggang, Shijing, Xiaoping, Shitan, Julong, Shangbu, Tongde, Ezhangtan, Xicun, Caihongqiao, Chen Clan Academy, and Hualin Temple. Four of them are interchange stations: Julong station, interchanging with line 12; Xicun station with line 5; Caihongqiao with line 11 and line 13; and Chen Clan Academy with line 1.
Xintang-Baiyun-Guangzhou Intercity Railway 新白广城际
The Xintang-Baiyun-Guangzhou (Xinbaiguang) Intercity Railway stretches 77.57 kilometers, connecting Zengcheng, Huangpu, Baiyun and Huadu districts. The railway starts from the Guangzhou North Railway Station of Guangzhou-Qingyuan Intercity Railway, and ends at the Xintang station of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen (Suishen) Intercity Railway.
Planned to start service in 2020 and run at 160 kilometers per hour, the Xinbaiguang Intercity Railway will take only 20 minutes from Xintang to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, and seven minutes from the airport to Guangzhou North Railway station.
Foshan-Dongguan Intercity Railway 佛莞城际
Foshan-Dongguan Intercity Railway (Guangzhou South Railway station – Wanghong station section) will be completed by the end of this year. When it is open to traffic, it will take just 15 minutes from Guangzhou to Dongguan city.
Guangzhou North Railway Station traffic hub
Once completed in 2020, the station will surpass the current Guangzhou South Railway Station in size, providing seamless connectivity between the airport, high-speed railways, intercity rails and metros routes.
Huangpu Tram Line 1
With 19 stations, Huangpu Tram Line 1 (Changling – Luogang section) began a trial run in December last year. Its demonstration section (Changping station – Yonghe Xincun station) will be operational by June 30.
